Day 5

The French concession and the Bund

sunny 34 °C

Started the day off going down to an area called the French concession. This area has a very French bohemian feel the architecture a cross between french and Chinese. A very nice part of town to stroll around for a couple of hours except that it felt like 100degrees it was so hot and muggy. Spent a bit of time just sitting in a cafe drinking slushies and cooling off.
Next we went to Peoples square a popular place for the locals with lots of huge multiple level shopping malls selling Gucci, Chanel, Prada etc.
Stopped in a little side street for some Chinese dinner, looked safe enough and was very tasty. Two mains, fried rice, a beer and soft drink only 12 dollars.
Then we walked down to the Bund for the night time views of Pudong across the river. Half of China must have had the same idea. It was packed with Chinese tourist coming and going.

Day 4.

Lazy day

sunny 34 °C

We had a bit of a lazy day today. Tried to give our feet a rest so had a nice long breakfast.
In the afternoon went to YuYuan markets which is set up in a maze of beautifully restored traditional Chinese housing. Did a little bit of shopping, mainly the window kind. Very busy here with lots of tour groups.
In the evening we went to a acrobatic show call ERA at Shanghai circus world. This was amazing with many death defying acts, very Cirque De Solei style.

Day 3

Shanghai world expo 2010

semi-overcast 37 °C

Today we went to the expo which is huuuuge.
Spent about 12 hours there and still didn't see everything, I think you would need at least 3 days. We did see lots though. Went to about 20 different pavilions all show casing a different country. In our unbiased opinion Australia was the best. We had lunch at the German pavilion, a big pork knuckle and a beer. The Chinese people were loving the pork knuckles. We were also excited about the clean toilets there.
It was stinking hot and I think we walked at least 50kms, our feet are burning.
We will be having an easy day on the feet tomorrow.

Day 2

The day at Tongli.

sunny 34 °C

Today we hopped on a bus to Tongli, which is one of China's many water towns. The bus took a hour and a half and the driver was on a mission, overtaking everything on the road. If someone was in the way he would just honk the horn until they moved.
Tongli is a 1000 year old town with lots of water channels and arched bridges. We just wonder around through all the little alley ways and took a boat ride aroung the canals. Also went to the Chinese sex museum which was bizarre.
A Tuk Tuk took us to the bus depot at the end of the day and he also helped us to buy our tickets back to Shanghai as nobody spoke English and there was no tourists around.
Finished the day with a massage which must be some form of Chinese torture, I'm sure my back is black and blue.
Sorry there are no photos as yet, having problems uploading photos.

Day 1.

Part two.

all seasons in one day 29 °C

We did a lot of walking today. Went down to the Bund where half of China was also going, and just walked around from there. Went to a market where all the sales people try to drag you into there shop, inside each shop was a secret door where they keep all the knock off stuff. We didn't buy anything saving that later.
It look amazing here at night when all the city lights up. Dinner was at a huge shopping centre where I was drooling all over the shoes priced at 500 dollars and more.
We finished the day with an one hour foot massage, only eight dollars! I'm sure we'll be doing that every chance we get.
